    For its 350th session, CNES’s Board of Directors met at the agency’s Toulouse Space Centre (CST) to see the most recent advances in France’s space programme. Among the items on the agenda, special attention was given to disruptive technologies and development of new applications.

    CNES President Jean-Yves Le Gall and Eumetsat Director General Alain Ratier have signed a cooperation agreement to extend the image-quality system of the 3MI instrument (Multi-viewing, Multi-channel, Multi-polarization Imager) that will fly from 2021 on the European MetOp-SG A weather satellite of the Eumetsat Polar System-Second Generation (EPS-SG).

    Tuesday 1 August, Vega accomplished a flawless launch from Europe’s spaceport at the Guiana Space Centre (CSG), orbiting the VENuU and OPTSAT-3000 satellites. The launch, conducted on behalf of CNES and the Israel Space Agency (ISA), and on behalf of the Italian Ministry of Defence, was the eighth this year from the CSG and marks the tenth flight of Vega, orbiting its seventh Earth-observing satellite.

  4. Next Vega mission to orbit. VENUS and OPTSAT-3000 satellites

    Tuesday 1 August, Vega will lift off from Europe’s spaceport in French Guiana carrying the VENµS and OPTSAT-3000 satellites. The launch, conducted on behalf of CNES and the Israel Space Agency (ISA), and the Italian Ministry of Defence, will be the eighth this year from the Guiana Space Centre and will mark the tenth flight of Vega, which will be orbiting its seventh Earth-observing satellite.

  5. Juno unveils some of Jupiter's secrets

    NASA’s Juno probe has been studying Jupiter’s structure and composition since July 2016. Its orbital trajectory brings it between the planet and its rings at an altitude of 5,000 km. During its mission, it will complete a total of 32 orbits before dropping into the planet’s atmosphere in 2021. Several papers have just been published about the first 2 flyovers. Tristan Guillot is an astrophysicist at the Observatoire de la Côte d’Azur in Nice, France; he co-authored 3 of these papers and helps us understand the probe’s first results.

    Friday 10 March, Ségolène Royal, Minister for the Environment, Energy and Maritime Affairs, in charge of international climate relations, and Louis Schweizer, the Commissioner General for Investment, visited the Toulouse Space Centre where they were received by CNES President Jean-Yves Le Gall and Geneviève Campan, Director of Digital Technologies and Operations and the centre’s Site Director.

  9. CNES central to the COP22 space agenda Panel session on climate opened by Ségolène Royal, Minister for the Environment, Energy and Maritime Affairs, in charge of international climate relations

    Friday 11 November at the COP22 in Marrakesh, being held from 7-18 November, CNES and its Moroccan counterparts organized a panel discussion on space technologies aiding implementation of the COP agreements. Ségolène Royal, Minister for the Environment, Energy and Maritime Affairs, in charge of international climate relations, and Abdellatif Loudiyi, Morocco’s Minister Delegate to the Head of Government for the administration of National Defence, in charge of space affairs, gave the opening speeches.

  10. CNES fetes 30th anniversary of its subsidiary CLS in Toulouse

    CNES’s subsidiary CLS (Collecte Localisation Satellites), the satellite operator and world-leading supplier of satellite-based Earth-observation products and services, yesterday celebrated its 30th anniversary at its facility in Ramonville outside Toulouse.     Jean-Yves Le Gall, Président du CNES et Alain Ratier, Directeur général d’EUMETSAT, viennent de signer un accord de coopération portant sur l’extension du système qualité image de l’instrument 3MI (Multi-viewing, Multi-channel, Multi-polarisation Imager). Cet instrument sera embarqué, à partir de 2021, sur le satellite météorologique européen MetOp-SG A du système polaire d’EUMETSAT de seconde génération.

    Mardi 1er août, Vega, lancé au Centre Spatial Guyanais (CSG), port spatial de l’Europe, a parfaitement réussi sa mission en mettant en orbite les satellites Venus et OPTSAT-3000. Ce lancement, effectué d’une part, pour le compte du CNES et de l’ISA (Israel Space Agency) et d’autre part, pour celui du Ministère de la défense italien, était le huitième lancement de 2017 au CSG et le 10ème lancement de Vega, qui réalise ainsi sa septième mission au profit de l’observation de la Terre.

  15. Jason-2 transferred to a lower orbit

    Orbit transfer operations were carried out by CNES Toulouse Space Centre teams and took place between 3 and 9 July 2017. Jason-2 now operates on a 1,309 km high orbit.
