  2. The Herschel satellite discovered a water reservoir around a young star

    The ESA's Herschel satellite, in which CNES is participating, discovered water vapour around a young star. It would come from the ice-covered dust of the matter disk orbiting the star. This ice would contain enough water to cover several planets.

    Le satellite Herschel de l’ESA, auquel participe le CNES, a découvert autour d’une jeune étoile de la vapeur d’eau, qui proviendrait de glace recouvrant la poussière du disque de matière en orbite autour de l’étoile. Cette glace contiendrait assez d’eau pour couvrir plusieurs planètes.

  5. Final rehearsal for GAIA teams

    From 2014, Europe's GAIA satellite will gather billions of items of observational data on stars and other celestial objects in our galaxy. But are the data processing centres ready and able to handle such huge volumes of information on a daily basis? To find out, a dress rehearsal was held in early September.
