  1. SARAL satellite in orbit

    The Indian SARAL satellite was placed into orbit Monday 25 February from the Satish Dhawan Space Centre in southern India. The satellite is carrying AltiKa, a new-generation radar instrument developed by CNES to tell us more about Earth’s climate.

    Thursday 16 January, Ariane 5 will be sent aloft from the Guiana Space Centre (CSG), Europe’s spaceport in Kourou, to orbit two telecommunications satellites: EUTELSAT KONNECT, built by prime contractor Thales Alenia Space for Eutelsat, and GSAT-30, designed and built by the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO). The launch will mark Ariane 5’s 107th flight, its first mission in 2020 and the first of the year from the CSG. It will also be the 251st flight in the Ariane series.

  6. State Visit of President François Hollande to India

    On the occasion of President François Hollande’s state visit, France and India announced a new step forward in their cooperation in space. Together they will be developing a joint climate-monitoring satellite in the wake of the COP21 conference as well as a joint data collection and location mission, and France will be involved in India’s future interplanetary missions.

    Wednesday 6 March in Bangalore, CNES President Jean-Yves Le Gall and Sivan K, Chairman of the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO), signed an agreement to implement the short-term plan for the French-Indian programme to develop a maritime surveillance system. This signature follows on from the broader agreement signed last March during President Emmanuel Macron’s state visit to India.

    Friday 24 January, CNES President Jean-Yves Le Gall was the guest of honour at the international Human Spaceflight Symposium organized in Bangalore, India, by the International Academy of Astronautics (IAA), the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) and the Astronautical Society of India (ASI). On this occasion, he called for cooperation between France and India in human spaceflight to be pursued in the long term, with CNES’s support for the Gaganyaan missions as the first step towards future collaboration on the development of India’s planned space station.

À cette occasion, le Président du CNES a exprimé le souhait d’inscrire dans la durée la coopération engagée entre la France et l’Inde dans le domaine des vols spatiaux habités, dans l’immédiat avec le soutien du CNES au programme Gaganyaan et pour le futur, dans le cadre du développement annoncé d'une station spatiale indienne.

    Jeudi 16 janvier, Ariane 5 s’élancera depuis le Centre Spatial Guyanais (CSG), port spatial de l’Europe, pour mettre en orbite deux satellites de télécommunications. D’une part, EUTELSAT KONNECT, sous maîtrise d’œuvre Thales Alenia Space pour le compte d’Eutelsat et d’autre part, GSAT-30, conçu et fabriqué par l’ISRO, l’agence spatiale indienne. Ce lancement sera le 107ème lancement d’Ariane 5, la première mission d’Ariane 5 en 2020 et le premier de l’année au CSG. Ce sera également le 251ème lancement de la famille des lanceurs Ariane.
